i'll never forgive you for what you did to moon & antarctica
good news in A and an XTC comparison? great vid
not even a mention of building nothing out of something? dang dude
Where No One's First and Your Next? Or Night on The Sun? EPs yes but finished products
I felt like We Were Dead was Good News v2. Thats whyi didnt like it all that much. Dashboard is basically float on 2. But Spitting Venom is still great. First concert I ever went to.
Trucker's Atlas is where its at.
It's really weird hearing my words come out of Melon's mouth.
interpol?
Wait is build nothing out of something not an album??? I bought the CD? No one's first and you're next? Everywhere and his nasty parlor?? The fruit that ate itself??? I don't understand how all of these are missing?? But I do love that you love modest mouse!
Modest mouse is my favorite band in the world 😍😍😍😍 they hurt my soul so good.
Oof. Moon and Antarctica is one of the greatest albums of all time. Then again, I'm an art rock/psych rock guy through and through.
We Were Dead Before The Ship Even Sank was always my favorite.
the best thing MM ever put out had gotta still be Building Nothing Out of Something to me. Idk, something about how well the album flows together even though its just a comp of B sides is astounding to me. It doesn't shy away from the weird and I'm super into the almost "BS"ness of some of the songs.
i'm willing to take whatever comes at me but.. i like strangers to ourselves. sugar boats, ansel, and wicked campaign are 3 of my fave modest mouse songs. and if one of you tells me i need to listen to more of their music check my last fm (motelnoelle) i know their groove
The earliest raw stuff is the absolute best. The feeling they put into the early stuff is so much more interesting and relatability than the later stuff. Modest Mouse is similar to the Faint and how the progression almost got less authentic at the end.
Do the Shins next they have a nice catalog.
Ween tier list please 🙏🏻
Love you bro, one day imma get a ITS BAD when I make it, I can just tell😂 but we love a lot of the same music an I appreciate the advice
Where's Building Nothing Out Of Something?
I agree that Strangers to Ourselves is their worst album to date. But something worth noting.. This is the first album without Eric Judy(Isaac Brock’s main songwriting partner and childhood friend) Isaac Brock said in interviews building up to recording/release of the album, how difficult it was without Eric Judy being a part of the process. They saw multiple producers to help out with the album(Big Boi from OutKast being one of them)
S- This is a Long Drive for Someone with Nothing to Think About A- Lonesome Crowded West, Sad Sappy Sucker B- The Moon and Antarctica, Building Nothing out of Something C- Everywhere and His Nasty Parlour Tricks, No One's First and You're Next D- Good News For People Who Love Bad News E- We Were Dead Before the Ship Even Sank F- Strangers to Ourselves
This was a pretty good take I think. List seems incomplete without mentioning Building nothing out of Something though.
You should do a Wilco tier list I think that would be very cool!
Every album is god tier fight me about it :)
I wish he mentioned Building Nothing out of Something, No one first and youre next, and Everywhere and his nasty parlor tricks. All pretty good collection of tracks that have some of my fav songs by Modest Mouse, Building Nothing is especially one of my favorites with its sadly relating depressive and personal seeming lyrics. The side b kinda sounds very bi polar, or like it was written by someone with borderline personality disorder, I think it gives a very good perspective on what its like I may be wrong tho, just my thoughts. (Also FREAKIN love No one's first and you're next.)
Moon and Antarctica gotta be S tier for me man. Also building nothing out of something getting no love, it’s A tier for sure
Interstate 8- EP is S -tier, Edit the Sad Parts, the title track, and the Sleepwalking cover are some of their best recordings to date :-)
GRIZZLY BEAR TIER LIST MY MAN
New Order tier list!
What about Ugly Casanova?
Strangers has some of the most garbage songs they’ve done, but also some really great ones. I’ll never say a bad word about Coyotes
what does S mean?
Pistol is the only song that I really like from Strangers to Ourselves
What about Building Nothing out of Something and This is a Long Drive for Someone with Nothing to Think About? Those are two great albums from them. You even talked about Sad Sappy Sucker, which was a rerelease. I agree about The Moon & Antarctica. Not really one of my favorite albums from them. I do think you are right about Good News For People Who Love Bad news. I will say that the album was so successful I kind of got sick of hearing it.
I still prefer Building Nothing out of Something over everything.
Since watching this, I have now listened to all modest mouse albums and everyone is wrong, good news is best album
thank you thank you thank you thank you for diving into Modest Mouse! I think Float On caused people to sleep but they've got plenty of stuff that needs to be heard.
My favorite band
It's the fashionable lisp. This ship is totally sinking
PLEASEE make a Beatles tier list!
WE NEED A NEW ORDER TIER LIST.
THE CURE TIER LIST IS A MUST.
The older I get the more I think "We Were Dead" is better and better
This is exactly what I would pick for the tier list!
Tf is this
Do Blur next, Melon.
Ok edgelord.
Glad I'm not the only one absolutely outraged about the Moon and Antarctica being in B tier.
Agree with 'Moon & Antarctica' in the B-tier, but 'Good News' should also be in the B-tier alongside it. I like 'Good News' a lot, but it's not on the same level as 'Long Drive.'
„Coyotes“ from the latest album is beautiful!
Polar Opposites gets me riled up 👊
Bruh... Interstate 8? Edit the Sad Parts is like one of their best songs
Ice age heat wave cant complain.
Do built to spill please.or Daniel Johnston I think your on fire right now.
I love the first 3 albums.been listening to the first one alot latley.have you seen the movie crime and punishment
Dope Anthony
great video my guy
The Moon & Antarctica should be S tier
Completely agree on this, Moon is (A) though, as is Good News, and yeah- that was the last great one, the rest have been baaaaad. The thing is, you really have to add Fruit that Ate Itself (B) and Everywhere and His Nasty Parlour Tricks (B)!
Thanks for showing MM some love, Melon.
Their debut albums are the best. Lol
My take on Modest Mouse: I can't figure out if I enjoy listening to them or not.
Lonesome Crowded West and Long Drive both came out when I was in high school and I was a gigantic fan of the band at that time. I saw them play live countless times during this era and they were fantastic. When Moon and Antarctica came out I was actually immensely disappointed by it. It wasn’t the songs, most of which I already knew through live bootlegs, but just the sound of the record which just seemed so flat, distant, and over-processed compared to their earlier records. I actually like the record a lot more now than I did then but I pretty much agree with where it’s placed in this list. There’s something so raw and earthy about Long Drive and Lonesome Crowded West that I don’t think they ever recaptured. And those records did really well capturing the vibe of the place they were from, which was roughly where I was from. Both top tier records for me. Also, I would include Building Something out of Nothing in that top tier which I think has some of their best songs.
Minimal? Gross. I'm the fuck out. Made it 3 minutes and 50 seconds in.
Man I don't fucking go to MM to be spacy and meditative. I go to Modest Mouse for shit like Parting of the Sensory.
Spending 18min talking about how Modest Mouse should have more confidence in himself it's not a tier list melon
*BRAND NEW* tier list?
moon in B... and no Building Nothing. im out.
And kid a with his whole family from a to z is going to show you how f****** crazy ISpast social media influencers are. Media is Latin for medium. That's the middle ground. That's the battleground. They're afraid and running. doesn't matter what they do cuz I got an army coming for you. And I ain't talking guns
And as The Tide rises they keep throwing people underboard you spend the time because they think they're stopping it but eventually there's going to be none left and they're all drown and you know what it's in a movie with Kevin Costner called The water world but that story flocked not as good as The Passion of the Christ go ask Jim caviezel he's also in a TV show about cameras that look at people a person of interest perhaps CSI is the answers or you could watch someone else tell you how to think, don't trust the judge's opinion opinions ain't s***
Update for school curriculums teach them the difference between columns and rows dumb pyramid Lego ass b******
Or maybe Trump's is a micro centimeter smaller oh wait y'all got the same meat he ain't packing ocean meat you go for a pack and I reach unplug when I speak you locked in bars don't preach you afraid of the world because you're too scared to jump never knew how to use your words now you're acting like a lil pump
Compares rappers based on a height, but criticizes them cuz they're too long? Sounds like you got a little mushroom bud just like Trump
And if I ever make a speech to text spelling mistake it's cuz you're a program is stupid cuz you don't know how to program you lazy fuzz boy
Long drive. You don't even know what a short walk is. Maybe try jogging naked and you'd lose some baggage
I hope that you do well and don't succeed
What are the points of reference on the list? Just Modest Mouse or all music in general? Because then that E for Strangers is even more insulting.
Totally disagree with you on Strangers to Ourselves :)
damn did we go back to feb 2020 or is it still 2021... i thought tier lists died about 10 months ago
i completely agree with all these rankings good job melon
ive been waiting
Haha so much hurt for moon. That album would be d tier for me. I still can't believe he dissed the newest record. It's pretty good.
I wish Strangers To Ourselves captured the energy of No One's First And You're Next. It's an amazing EP, sandwiched in between two lesser albums.
This Drive will always be my favorite
Do FUGAZI
I love Long Drive and think it is evey bit as good if not better than Lonesome. Antarctica is great but I agree that it is a teir below the two previous. That said I feel that Good News is an absolute masterpeice, their best albulm, and as near a perfect album as can be. I was among those hating on it when it was released because the singles weren't (and still aren't) my favorites, and the overall sound was such a departure from what I liked about the band. I wasn't ready for the banjo and pump organ. The reason that such a drastic change of style works here is that the songs are just so fucking good that you could perform them with kazoos and slide whistles and their quality would shine through. Seriously 80% plus of these tracks are the best track on the album. Also I think you may have accidentally cut your placement of Building Nothing out of Something in the edit. Might wanna sneak that in and re-publish before there is a riot.
COCTEAU TWINS TIER LIST!
Good News is spectacular. I think their emotional content was amazing and the bump in instrumentation was awesome. Float On is still one of my favorite songs of encouragement, alongside Railroad Man by the Eels. Bukowski is probably my favorite MM song.
Just wanted to save everyone the trouble of watching this All albums were correctly listed as S tier
Seeing this in my reccs as a modest mouse fan is a pleasant surprise!
Good News is my favorite album despite not liking a few songs. Blame it on the Tetons is my favorite song by them. The Lyrical and musical depth of Tetons is so understated and nuanced, truly poetic stuff. World at Large, Ocean Breathes Salty, Good Times, One Chance, Float On, Satin in a Coffin...all great songs that hit all over the spectrum, and variety is something I highly value in an album.
Looked up modest mouse because I was contemplating suicide and these albums are my lullabies, this video popped up. Fucking hilarious.
A Nine Inch Nails tier list would be great
Sorry, but I consider anything with 8 or more songs an album D: 1. Lonesome Crowded West 2. Long Drive 3. We Were Dead 4. Building Nothing 5. Sad Sappy Sucker 6. The Moon & Antarctica 7. No One's First 8. Parlour Tricks 9. Good News 10. Fruit Ate Itself 11. Uncle Bunny Faces 12. Tube-Fruit 13. Strangers To Ourselves
if interstate 8s not IN the top im flipping tables Jesus style. edit: I'm actually gonna cry
As a long time MM fan my favorite song of theirs is Sugar Boats. I disagree with your thoughts on Strangers to Ourselves. It's A tier for me.
MM
My tier list would go Lonesome, building something, nasty parlor tricks, interstate 8, moon and Antarctica, then we were dead and good news are kinda interchangable, with no ones first and you're next last. This is just a list of the projects I listen too. Never listened to long drive to much outside of dramamine and ohio.
Man I remeber how excited I was for strangers to ourselves because it was the first album they were going to put out since I got into them and I couldnt agree with Anthony more
