Artists need a way to keep their sales up, the streaming age has hit the music industry extremely hard. I support all deluxe editions, alternate covers, whatever artists need to do to actually sell their stuff rather than have someone tap on their song and turn it off after 10 seconds on streaming. We should all be supporting that, it’s weird to me people ripping artists for selling their art. If we were in their shoes we would want to get maximum sales too right?

But, some french rapper really add strong 5-10 new songs. Depend of the artist i suppose !

My theory on the Eminem one... just a marketing gimmick to make it a deluxe album instead of a standalone sequel album to avoid ending Em's #1 streak. Sometimes they can be worthwhile, IMO. For example, Soundgarden's deluxe editions of Badmotorfinger and Supeunknown included bonus tracks and B-sides that were absolutely worth releasing (Blind Dogs, Birth Ritual, Cold Bitch, the demo for Black Rain, Like Suicide (acoustic) and some excellent live material). Weezer's deluxe editions of Blue and Pinkerton included some of their best songs in the form of B-sides and demos (for example, Pinkerton deluxe included essentially most of the songs scrapped from what was to be Songs From the Black Hole, which are all fantastic). But these albums were released as anniversary editions, meaning they were released well after the original albums, and contained songs that fans would have struggled to obtain before. If a deluxe edition is coming out at the same time as the original album, containing songs you could easily obtain, what's the point of making it a "deluxe" edition??

Deluxe albums aren’t inherently a bad thing, but it’s just became a cheap gimmick used to increase album streams. The deluxe version of “After Hours” had just 3 songs, but they were all quality songs that could hang with the music on the original. Most of these deluxes are just adding another album’s worth of forgettable and mid songs that a lot of people won’t even wanna listen to twice. As an artist myself, I can understand wanting every song you record to end up being heard some way, but an artist that really cares about their legacy shows some restraint. That’s why we haven’t gotten even a single from Kendrick in years, because he doesn’t wanna drop unless the song really means something. I wish more artists had that same conviction to deliver quality over quantity.

we all know the best deluxe album is weezer red album
Fantano is the hall monitor of music
Deluxe albums are like DLC for music
Okay but, JEAN DEAUX-WATCH THIS! Deluxe. Worth it.
I feel like the uptick in deluxe albums is another symptom of the pandemic. Since artists can’t tour, they’re re-releasing albums to milk as much income as possible.
circles deluxe is my favorite deluxe. two extra amazing songs
I know everybody is discussing the industry/serious implications of this (like it being a "cash grab" sort of technique), all of which I mostly agree with but on a less serious note, does anyone else only fully listen to deluxe editions if it's a favorite artist/really good album? And when it's not a favorite artist/decent/ok album, I skip certain extras?
i remember when the deluxe thing kinda started on itunes back in like 2012-2015. would only be like 3 extra songs but instead of paying $9.99 you would pay something like $12.99
deluxe albums be fuckin up my scrobbles for real
Sometimes I ask myself: Does Fantano know Jack Stauber?
Shoutout to DAMN Deluxe, which is literally just the album in reverse order?? Wtf?
Deluxe albums were great when 3-5 extra songs were added and appeared separately from the original tracklist
Im surprised that you didn't even mention Taylor Swift. The worst on this issue
Uzi brought it back in 2018 in Lir2 deluxe with 20 min
i thought it spells out deluexss not deloax, thank you Nemo for teaching me the right way🤗
Imagine TPAB Deluxe Edition (plus B Sides, alternate poem interludes, Remixes & an extended tupac interview)
Not to mention updated or enhanced album cover from alternate photo takes. Would be the greatest hip hop deluxe edition of all time.
Never forget DAMN Deluxe Edition
Great video. And a good mindset for sifting through new music. Disliked and unsubbed.
Neon shark shouldve been a mixtape or ep
Any deluxe Tom mcdonald record coming out soon?!?
I think this recent trend is because the greatest album of all times was a Deluxe edition. Namely, Recovery, Deluxe Edition.
Mac DeMarco is the only artist I seen milk his album right w/ the extras afterwards.
